In a couple days we’re having a pre-release / wrap party for our first consumer product: The Power Lunch Training Video. We’re co-hosting with our fantastic production company, Bay Package Productions. Really looking forward to it.
It’s going to be catered by my sister’s company, Carolyn Davis Catering, which means I’m going to eat well that night.
Drop us a line if you’re gonna be in the neighborhood Wednesday evening and would like to stop by.

Is it a Business Lunch or a Power Lunch?
Posted on 05. Dec, 2008 by Craig Peters.
That’s an interesting question to some people. There are folks who have a certain attachment to referring to it one way or the other. That’s fine. To me, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is what you do: how you conduct yourself and what you accomplish.
Any time you’re conducting business, there’s power involved. When you sit down with someone to do business over lunch, you rarely sit down with an exact equal. Both of you have goals. Both of you want something (or many things). If you do your job right, you’ll find solutions that satisfy both of you. But, even then, there’s power involved. That’s OK.
Call it what you like. What matters is that you do it well.

The Beginning of Something Wonderful
Posted on 02. Dec, 2008 by Mark Cornish.
Have you ever been really excited about something? I have. Many times. Like when I was 9 years old on Christmas eve. I can still clearly remember that great anticipation that kept me up all night.
Well, I’m a bit older now, but getting excited about something is still easy to do. The work that I’m doing with my business partner and fellow blog author, Craig Peters, is one of many reasons why I’m excited today. We’re about to launch our first product, The Power Lunch Training Video. The training video provides a framework for how to conduct a power lunch. We also feature interviews with experienced pros who have conducted power lunches throughout their careers.
It’s part of a bigger vision to educate and advise people on the importance that social capital plays in their lives. We’re going to provide concrete advice on how to grow your social capital.
As my one of our other partners likes to say, we’re democratizing the understanding of, and access to, social capital. What was once the guarded language of the upper class and high-level executives, a code of social graces that were taught to the few rich and no one else… we want to make available to the masses. How can that not be exciting?

Coaching, Mentoring, Lunch, and Business
Posted on 01. Dec, 2008 by Craig Peters.
Four of my favorite topics: coaching, mentoring, lunch, and business.
Coaching. Coaching is about how to do something. It’s like my teaching days, coaching students in the ways of life. How to be a student. How to be a member of a group. How to be an individual. How to get along. Of course, I taught my students how to understand fractions, the scientific method, and a couple other things along the way, but what really got me excited to be there–and what I’m most proud of–was coaching my students on how to navigate life better.
Mentoring. You could say that mentoring is my replacement for coaching since I’ve left teaching and entered the business world. In recent years, I’ve found myself drawn to help others who are starting out in the world of web design (more specifically user-experience strategy and design). I like it. Mentoring makes me feel useful. Helps me understand my life better. Strokes my ego.
Lunch. How can you not like lunch? You have it every day. It’s the one time every day that nobody’s going to load up my calendar. It’s a time when we’re all taking a break from our computers and desks. We’ll be saying a lot more here about lunch.
Business. There’s a surprising amount of creativity available in the business world, particularly as an entrepreneur. Opportunities to reinvent yourself at a moment’s notice are all around us. Something doesn’t work out? Make a change - do something else. Want to make something of yourself? You have that choice. There’s something profoundly wonderful—and at other times frightfully daunting—about knowing that your successes and your failures are entirely up to you.
So, my interest in my friend Mark Cornish’s new start up was a no-brainer. Mark set out to help people improve how they interact face-to-face with other people, particularly around business. I’ve joined him in this effort, as have a few others. Our vision is very exciting, the details of which will be laid out in these pages over time.
In the meantime, we’re just about done with our first consumer product, The Power Lunch Training Video. It’ll be available for purchase in exactly one month: January 1st, 2009.
As excited as I am, I’m sure Mark is more so. I’ll let him tell you more about the training video.
